China and Indonesia pledged on Friday to cement their ties and push forward their cooperation in east Asia.

The commitment was made in the meetings between visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao on separate occasions at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.

Wu, chairman of National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said the NPC, the Indonesian parliament and the People's Consultative Assembly have forged sound cooperation and made contributions to the development of the China-Indonesia strategic partnership in recent years.

Wu expressed his hope that the two legislative bodies can give full play to their potential for cooperation and work together to vitalize and enrich their strategic partnership.

Susilo spoke highly of the achievements China has made in economic and social development, saying that a growing and stable China will play a significant role in maintaining global peace, stability and development.

While meeting with the Indonesian president, Premier Wen applauded the recent growth of bilateral relations, saying China will work with Indonesia to further implement a consensus reached between the two leaders and address issues between the two nations in order to boost China-Indonesia relations to a higher level.

Wen expressed the belief that the Indonesian president's visit will further expand bilateral political mutual trust, as well as increase exchanges and cooperation in multiple fields.

While discussing China-ASEAN cooperation, Wen said both sides should firmly support and coordinate with each other to push east Asian cooperation in the proper direction, as well as make unremitting efforts to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Susilo said Indonesia attaches great importance to its ties with China and wishes to learn about China's successful experiences in national development.

Indonesia welcomes Chinese companies to expand their investment in Indonesia and is willing to boost its strategic communication and pragmatic cooperation with China to help fortify ASEAN-China cooperation, Susilo said.

Susilo arrived in China on Thursday for a state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao. The trip is the Indonesian president's second state visit to China.

Susilo paid his first visit to China in July 2005, several months after Hu visited Indonesia and announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries.
