An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted eastern parts of Japan and its vicinity in Honshu Island of Japan on Sunday, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 14:28 local time ( 0528 GMT), was off Torishima. This earthquake poses no tsunami risk, the agency said.

Strong tremors were felt in Tokyo. So far there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties.

The China Earthquake Networks Center also monitored the earthquake. The epicenter, with a depth of 360 km, was initially determined to be at 31.4 degrees north latitude and 138.3 degrees east longitude, according to the?China Earthquake Networks Center.
