China on Tuesday called on all parties in Yemen to resolve disputes through peaceful means after deadly clashes broke out recently in the Gulf country.

"China is keeping a close watch on the situation in Yemen. We call on all sides in Yemen to address disputes through dialogue and other peaceful means and avoid violent conflicts," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said at a daily press briefing on Tuesday.

Hong's comments came after at least 57 people were killed in clashes between government forces and protesters in Yemen.

As a nation friendly to Yemen, China hopes that Yemen will restore stability as soon as possible, Hong said.
