At least eight people, including three policemen, were killed and several others injured when a suicide car bomb hit a police officer's house in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi Monday morning, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo.

According to the report, the blast took place at about 7:25 a.m. when an explosive-laden car hit a house of a local police officer near a police station in the Defense area of the city.

The target of the blast was the house of Superintendant Police Aslam Khan, said the report, adding that three bodyguards, a woman and a kid were injured in the blast.

Aslam Khan himself escaped the attack, but several members of his family were injured in the blast.

The house of Aslam Khan was completely destroyed in the blast. Many buildings and six police vehicles nearby the blast site were also destroyed, said the report, adding that an eight-foot-deep crater was left on the ground following the explosion.

Police have blocked all the roads leading to the blast site and a search operation is still underway. Some people were feared buried under the debris of the collapsed buildings.

Superintendant Police Aslam told local media that he had received life threats from Pakistan Taliban (TTP) a few days before and he believed that the blast was planned by TTP.
