China, Australia hold 3rd round of strategic dialogue

China and Australia on Wednesday held the third round of strategic dialogue in Canberra of Australia, co-chaired by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Zhang Zhijun, and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Secretary-General, Dennis Richardson.
The two sides exchanged views on the next steps to extend bilateral relations. They have also discussed the world political and economic situation, as well as issues on regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Both sides agreed that strengthening dialogue, enhancing mutual trust, and expanding cooperation between China and Australia will help to fulfill the two nations' fundamental interests, as well as to contribute to peace, stability and development in the Asia- Pacific region and the world.
The pair also said the two nations will make joint efforts to use strategic and long-term views to develop bilateral relations, mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit between the two nations. China and Australia will also strengthen communication and coordination in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as in international affairs.
They said the two nations will use next year's 40th anniversary of Sino-Australian diplomatic relations as an opportunity to lift bilateral relations to a new level.
During his visit in Australia, Zhang Zhijun also met with Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, Defense Minister Stephen Smith, Trade Minister Craig Emerson, and other government officials.
