Russian jet fighter MIG-29M was withdrawn from the demonstration flights on Wednesday during the MAKS international air show being held near Moscow, local media reported.

According to a spokesman of the MIG Corporation, the aircraft's pilot detected a malfunction during a stunt performance over airfield in the town of Zhukovsky, where the 10th MAKS air show is being held.

He did not specify the nature of the malfunction, just saying it has been "insignificant" and promised it would be fixed by Thursday.

The show organizers, nevertheless, decided to ground the fighter to avoid any risk for the tens of thousands of visitors, with the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and other top officials among them.

The MIG-29M is a fourth-generation fighter designed in 1970s. It entered services in 1983 and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as one of the most advanced fighters so far.

MAKS 2011 air show has attracted more than 800 companies and organizations from 40 countries to participate.
