A magnitude-3.6 earthquake that hit the Channel Islands area in the Pacific Ocean early Saturday sent shocks to parts of Los Angeles, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake took place about 1:17 a.m. and was centered about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Malibu's Leo Carrillo State Beach. Its epicenter was only about two miles (3.6 kilometers) beneath the surface.

Residents in parts of Los Angeles said they felt the shocks, according to the USGS' "Did you feel it?" website.

These areas included Oxnard, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Calabasas, as well as those as far away as Brentwood, Encino, Van Nuys, Culver City, El Segundo and Westchester.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
