Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday urged finding efficient ways to carry out large-scale China-U.S. cooperation in finance, trade and economy.

"We hope to enhance coordination with the United States and properly handle our differences to meet challenges together," Wen told a group of U.S. business leaders and former government officials, who are here for the first round of dialogues between China-U.S. business leaders and former government officials.

China and the United States share strong, complementary economic positions, Wen said, adding that this had not been changed by the global financial crisis.

"China has established a series of policies, including boosting domestic demand and encouraging technological innovation, which offer greater business opportunities for U.S. companies," he said.

The premier said his government firmly adheres to a win-win strategy of opening-up, and has been constantly improving its laws and regulations concerning foreign businesses.

Currently the world economy is recovering slowly and still faces numerous unstable and uncertain factors, he said.

Wen called for continued confidence to spot the direction of macroeconomic policies and enhance cooperation among countries to bolster the rebound of the global economy.

"Major economies should not only solve major problems in their economic development, but also prevent inflicting negative impact on world economy," Wen said.

The U.S. delegates were the first group of foreign guests Premier Wen met with after the country's annual sessions of the National People's Congress.

Over 20 former Chinese and U.S. government officials and business leaders participated in the first round of dialogues scheduled on Thursday and Friday.

Among those present were former Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan, Vice Chairman Tung Chee-hwa of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tom Donohue, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and former U.S. National Security Advisor Sandy Berger.
