Active contacts and dialogue are needed for early resumption of six-party talks on the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, a Chinese diplomat said Tuesday.

"Though the tension on the peninsula has eased somewhat recently thanks to the joint efforts by related parties, the six-party talks still remain stalled with weak momentum of dialogues," said Huang Wei, China's deputy envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Huang said that "getting the relevant issues back to the track of dialogue and consultation is the best option to ease the current situation and continue to push ahead the process of Korean peninsula's denuclearization."

It will also be conducive to maintaining peace and stability in the Northeast Asia region, Huang told a meeting of the 35-nation IAEA board of governors.

China hopes all parties concerned will focus on the overall interest and long-term prospects, keep calm and exercise restraint, Huang said.

Meanwhile, all sides should grasp the moment, actively engage in dialogues with political wisdom and courage, so as to create conditions for early resumption of the six-party talks, Huang said.
