Trade unions of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea voiced opposition on Monday to the latest South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises, the official news agency KCNA reported.

In a peace declaration, the DPRK's General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, and South Korea's Federation of Korean Trade Unions and Korean Confederation of Trade Unions also called on both countries to solve all issues through dialogue and negotiations.

They expressed concern about the touch-and-go situation on the Korean Peninsula and urged Washington and Seoul to immediately halt the "Key Resolution" and "Condor" joint military exercises, said the KCNA.

The unions urged South Korean authorities to "promptly come out for dialogue and negotiations with the north, though belatedly, from a sincere stand for peace and stability of the peninsula" and allow contacts and visits between non-government organizations and people of various social sectors.

On Sunday, the Korean People's Army of the DPRK said it would take resolute military measures to respond to the South Korea-U.S. exercises which would last from Feb. 28 to March 10.
