A senior U.S. official called the interaction with Russia in Kyrgyzstan a "field" of successful cooperation, RIA Novosti news agency reported Friday.

"In Central Asia, our relations have obviously changed, I would have highlighted the situation in Kyrgyzstan. We no longer feel the pressure of Russia on the issue that we should close our transit center at the Manas airport," Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russell told a seminar at American Enterprise Institute.

"Russia delivers fuel to our military base. We also coordinated our actions when the riots took place in Kyrgyzstan," Russell added.

Russia and Kyrgyzstan last week set up a joint venture to supply jet fuel to Manas air base.

The venture, Gazpromneft-Aero-Kyrgyzstan, was established by Kyrgyzstan's Manas state-controlled fuel supply company and Russia's Gazpromneft-Aero.

In early February, Kyrgyzstan and the United States signed an agreement on jet fuel supplies to the U.S. air base, replacing previous deals with a more transparent system.

The United States has used the Manas air base since 2001 to support military operations in Afghanistan. Later it was renamed as Transit Center at Manas, which is a key point for equipment and U.S. troops transfer to battlefields in Afghanistan.
