Both sides have exchanged views on bilateral relations and major regional and world issues. Wen also delivered a speech at the Indian Council of World Affairs.

During his meetings and in his speech, Wen elaborated on China's policies and stance on the China-India relations, recalled friendly exchanges between China and India, spoke highly of the sound development of the China-India relations and cooperation in various fields in recent years. He also defined the orientation of the development of bilateral relations.

Wen reaffirmed that there is enough space in the world for China and India to develop jointly and cooperate with each other.

Wen said China and India have similar national background and have experienced similar sufferings. Both countries are facing the same challenges and in the same critical period of development.

China and India should enhance political and strategic trust, expand cooperation in all fields and strengthen coordination on regional and international issues with a view to promoting the development of the China-India relations on the basis of mutual benefit and cooperation to seek common development, Wen said.

Wen noted that China and India should always be partners and friends, not rivals, hoping this can be a firm faith of both sides.

Meanwhile, Indian leaders much appreciated Wen's comments and stance on the China-India relations, saying that India attached great importance to the development of the India-China relations, cherished the friendship between the two countries and was willing to work together with China to further deepen and enrich the India-China strategic and cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity.

The two sides issued a joint communique, announcing the establishment of a mechanism for regular exchanges of visits between heads of state/government, opening a telephone hotline between Chinese premier and Indian prime minister, and a mechanism for annual exchanges of visits between foreign ministers.

Both sides also agreed to seek fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solutions to the border issues through negotiations.

Both sides should work jointly to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas before the issues are fully resolved, Wen said.

The two sides also signed a number of cooperative agreements in the fields of economy, culture, environmental protection and media.
