Three major Kyrgyzstan parties have agreed to form a coalition government, according to acting Parliament Speaker Tashpolot Baltabaev.

Baltabaev said Tuesday the Ata-Meken Party, the Socialist Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan (SDPK) and the Respublika Party were now drawing up a formal coalition agreement.

According to a preliminary agreement by the three parties, SDPK leader Almazbek Atambayev will be the Prime Minister, Respublika head Vladimir Popov will be first Deputy Prime Minister and Ata-Meken leader Omurbek Tekebayev will be the Speaker in the new government.

On Oct. 10, Kyrgyzstan held its first parliamentary election after the adoption of a new constitution. Five parties, including Ata-Zhurt, SDPK, Ar-Namys, Respublika and Ata-Meken, won seats in the new parliament.

On Nov. 10, Atambayev was commissioned by Kyrgyz President of the interim government Roza Otunbayeva to begin talks with other parties on the forming a new government. If the SDPK had not come up with a workable coalition by Dec. 3, responsibility would have fallen to the Ata-Meken Party to negotiate an agreement.

On April 7, a mass uprising in the capital Bishkek led to the ouster of then president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who later fled to Belarus, and the installation of the interim government.
