Peruvian VP, Chinese general vow to boost bilateral military ties

Peruvian First Vice President Luis Giampietri Rojas met visiting Chinese General Chen Bingde, chief of the general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA),?in Lima on Monday, vowing to boost bilateral military relationship.
Giampietri welcomed Chen's visit, saying Peru attached great importance to the visit, which would inject new impetus into the bilateral military relationship.
Peru was willing to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and to push forward relations between the two militaries, Giampietri said.
Chen said Peru was an ancient civilization and important country in Latin America, adding the bilateral relations had witnessed rapid progress in recent years.
Along with the steady development of bilateral ties, relations between the two militaries had also advanced smoothly, Chen said.
China attached importance to the relations of the two militaries and was willing to further pragmatic cooperation based on the principle of mutual benefit, Chen said.
The two sides also exchanged views on other major issues of common concern.
Chen also met Contreras Rivas, chief of the Joint Command of the Peruvian Armed Forces, on Monday.
Contreras said Peru was willing to further deepen bilateral cooperation with China in various fields and push forward relations between the two countries and the two militaries. He also stressed Peru's one-China policy stance.
Chen said, in recent years, the two sides had witnessed strengthened mutual political trust and expanded bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The general said China much appreciated Peru's stance of backing the one-China policy and Peru's support for China on the Taiwan and Tibet issues.
Chen arrived in Lima on Sunday for a three-day visit.
