The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) strongly rejected the anti-DPRK human rights resolution recently adopted at the Third Committee of the 65th UN General Assembly, the official KCNA news agency reported Saturday.

The resolution is "a product of the political plot of the hostile forces" who seek to bring down the DPRK system through pressure every year, and an example of the West's "double standards in handling human rights issues," the KCNA quoted a spokesman from the DPRK foreign ministry as saying.

The DPRK "vehemently and totally rejects" the resolution, the spokesman said, adding that "it will steadily strengthen and develop the Korean-style socialist system which fully protects human rights and comprehensively promotes them."

The UN Third Committee, in charge of social and humanitarian issues under the auspices of the UN General Assembly, Thursday adopted a resolution proposed by the EU and Japan. The resolution condemns the DPRK's violation of human rights.

It is the sixth resolution of its kind adopted by the committee since 2005, and will be submitted to the full UN General Assembly for a vote.
