UN human rights high commissioner visits Bolivia

United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner Navanethem Pillay began on Friday an official visit to Bolivia, during which she will learn about the human rights situation in the country and meet Bolivian President Evo Morales.
According to Pillay's official agenda, she will also meet with Bolivian authorities from the legislative and judicial powers as well as leaders from social sectors and political parties.
The Bolivian presidency said that she would meet with Morales on Nov. 16.
"I came to see and hear, so before giving my opinion it is necessary that I talk with all the sectors, then I will give a press conference." Pillay told reporters.
Pillay will visit on Sunday an indigenous community and will also meet with Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca, Justice Minister Nilda Copa, Ombudsman Rolando Villena and indigenous leaders and will attend different events to analyze the human rights situation in Bolivia.
Pillay's visit to Bolivia is framed by Bolivia's government commitment to extend the presence of the UN Human Rights High Commissioner Office (UNHRC) in Bolivia till 2013.
The UNHRC-Bolivia began its activities in 2007 with an aim of giving technical assistance to the state institutions and civil society organizations to promote and report the situation of human rights in Bolivia.
