Thai authorities on Wednesday reported that at least 59 people have died and 3.2 millions been stricken by flood in northern, northeastern, eastern and central regions.

According to a report issued by the Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand (NIEM) at the Ministry of Public Health, 59 people in 18 affected provinces have lost their lives in the fatal flooding.

Lopburi, one of the hardest hit provinces in central region, has the highest fatalities at 10, followed by northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima province with nine, the report by NIEM said.

The majority of the dead were men which accounts for 78 percent.

Meanwhile, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Wednesday that 36 provinces in northern, northeastern, eastern and central plains are currently inundated while floodwaters in 11 provinces have receded.

Report by the department said 3.2 million people have been affected and 1.1 million households ravaged by the floods which had been raging since Oct. 10 as the monsoon rains hit the country.

Besides, 3.4 million rai (5,440 square km) of agrarian areas have been damaged by flood, the report said.
