U.S. President Barack Obama called Pakistani President Asif Zardari on Tuesday to talk about the progress of the recent U.S.-Pakistan strategic dialogue, said the White House.

White House said in a statement that President Obama highlighted the commitment of both countries to the strategic dialogue on security, economic, development and governance issues.

White House said both presidents acknowledged that more work needed to be done to address the direct threat to both countries posed by terrorist groups in Pakistan.

President Obama expressed on the phone his intention to visit Pakistan in 2011 and also welcomed President Zardari to visit the United States next year, said the White House statement.

The United States and Pakistan just concluded their third strategic dialogue on Friday, which touched upon a wide array of issues on security, defense, economy and so on.

As a major outcome of the dialogue, U.S. State Secretary Hillary Clinton announced on Friday that the United States plans to provide a five-year, 2-billion-dollar security assistance package to Pakistan, in a bid to win over Pakistan's support to fight Taliban militants within its boarders.
