Experts from China and the Kobe Oji Zoo in western Japan have proved the giant panda Xing Xing was suffocated to death by vomits when it received anaesthesia at the zoo last month.

China's State Forestry Administration announced the wrap-up of the investigation on Oct. 2, saying the results were figured out based on comprehensive analysis and the panda's health records through the week before its death and an autopsy, Xinhuanet.com reports.

Investigation showed the panda, named Long Long in Chinese, died on Sept. 9 from inhaling vomits into its lungs during its return to consciousness from the anaesthesia conducted for a sperm-collecting operation.

The two sides will deal with affairs arising from the incident in line with a cooperation agreement on giant pandas.

Long Long was sent to the Kobe Oji Zoo in 2002 for the purpose of inseminating female pandas.
