Colombia on Sunday rejected Venezuelan Predient Hugo Chavez's claim that it is planning an attack on Venezuela.

"Colombia never thought about attacking the neighboring country as it was claimed by the president of that country, who is fooling his own people," presidential spokesman Cesar Mauricio Velasquez said in a statement.

Colombia will continue to ask international organizations such as the Organization of American States (OAS) to persuade Venezuela to honor its commitment of keeping foreign guerilla groups out of its borders, he said.

The spokesman also reiterated that Colombia believes Venezuela is still harboring leaders of FARC and ELN, the two Colombian rebel groups, in its territory.

On July 22, Venezuela broke off relations with Colombia after the latter accused it of harboring guerrilla leaders in Venezuelan territory and took the case to international organizations. Security has been beefed on both sides of the Venezuela-Colombia border.
