An earthquake with magnitude of 6. 3 struck off north Maluku of Indonesian on Wednesday, but there is no potential for tsunami and damages or casualty, officials said in Jakarta.

Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake struck at 16:16 p.m. Jakarta time (0916 GMT) with epicenter at 254 km northeast Ternate of North Maluku and with the depth at 105 km under sea bed.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 2 to 3 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) at Ternate, an official of the agency named only Aprillianto told Xinhua.

"The quake is not potential for tsunami, so that we did not issue tsunami warning," he said.

Indonesian Disaster Management Agency reported that the shakes of the quake were felt weak around the quake epicenter. "So far there are no reports of building damaged or those injured after the quake," he told Xinhua over phone.

Indonesia is laid on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where two continental plates meet that cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements.

Indonesian government has upgrade the map of areas potentially-hit by quake and tsunami across the archipelago country with over 17,500 islands and homed by about 238 million people.

The last map was issued in 2002.
