A?working group between the Election Commission (EC) and the Office of the Attorney-General?(OAG) has prepared to advise political party registrar to ask Constitution Court to dissolve the ruling Democrat Party regarding the alleged misuse of political development fund, an EC member said Friday.

Sodsri Sattyadharm, an associate commissioner said that the joint meeting between the EC and the OAG has decided to precede the case to the Constitution Court to consider whether to dissolve the Democrat Party.

However, the meeting has resolved to notify EC Chairman Apichart Sukatkannont, also the political party registrar, the decision before preceding the case to the court.

On April 12, the EC said it resolved to request the Constitution Court's order to dissolve the Democrat Party, claiming that the party had unlawfully received a 258 million baht (US$7.98 million) donation from TPI Polene Plc in 2005.

Thailand's charter has prohibited a political party from receiving donation of over 10 million baht (US$309,310) a year from an individual or a company.

"The working group has suggest that file a charge with the Constitution Court to consider whether to dissolve the Democrat Party. The Attorney-General will precede the case, but the decision must be sent to Mr. Apichart first," Sodsri said.
