UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday strongly condemned the attacks in Pakistan, which left 42 people dead and scores more wounded, a UN statement said.

"The secretary-general strongly condemns suicide attack at the Data Ganj Baksh shrine in Lahore, Pakistan, which has reportedly claimed the lives of several dozen people and left many more injured," said a statement read by Farhan Haq, Ban's associate spokesman at a daily news briefing.

"The deliberate targeting of a crowded place of worship makes this particularly vicious," the statement said. "The secretary- general extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Pakistan."

Two suicide bombers attacked the most important shrine in Lahore, Pakistan on Thursday night, killing at least 42 people and wounding 175 others, reports said.

The attack took place as the shrine was packed with worshippers, reports said. It was the second major raid in Lahore in a month.
