Otunbayeva to take office as Kyrgyz president

Kyrgyzstan's interim leader Roza Otunbayeva will be sworn in as president on Saturday, according to media reports Wednesday.
Otunbayeva was to take office Saturday, one day after the Central Electoral Committee announces the definitive results of Sunday's referendum, the AFP quoted a government spokesman as saying.
At Otunbayeva's request, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at a concert hall in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's capital, the report said.
Riots broke out on April 6-7 across the Central Asian country, resulting in the ouster of former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and the formation of an interim government.
On May 19, Kyrgyzstan's interim government announced that Otunbayeva would serve as president.
The country held a referendum Sunday to determine the fate of a new constitution that would create a parliamentary democracy in Kyrgyzstan and whether or not to give legitimacy to the interim government.
Final results from the referendum showed that 90.56 percent of the Kyrgyz voters supported a new constitution, the Central Electoral Committee said Tuesday.
Officials of the interim government said Wednesday that parliamentary elections will be held Oct. 10.
Otunbayeva will serve as president until 2011 elections.
