The state of emergency in Thailand's capital Bangkok and other provinces could not be lifted yet, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsubansaid on Thursday, the Nation online reported.

The Thai government has yet to watch out for possible untoward incidents for a while, Suthep said.

"It's not time for lifting the state of emergency yet," Suthep said.

The state of emergency has been imposed in 24 provinces of Thailand's 76 provinces due to the recent anti-government "red- shirt" rally in central Bangkok.

The emergency rule has been imposed from April 7, 2010, empowering police and army to control the then anti-government protests.

And, in a bid to ensure security, the state of emergency's enforcement has been maintained though the anti-government protests ended on May 19, which resulted in tremendous losses and damage to the country.
