The Thai government on May 28 will assess if a curfew's enforcement should be extended, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban said Thursday.

"The situation in some provinces is under control," the Thai News Agency quoted the deputy premier as saying.

Suthep has vowed that "the government will not allow the anti- government group to create any new chaos."

On May 25, the weekly cabinet meeting extended the curfew for four more overnights until early May 29 to ensure security for the public in capital Bangkok and 23 provinces.

The curfew has forbidden the public to go outdoors between 24: 00 and 04:00 a.m., which is one hour shortened from the earlier curfew period.

The government has imposed the curfew since May 19 when angry protesters rampaged and set fire to buildings in Bangkok after their leaders surrendered to police and concluded a two-month rally to avoid more loss of lives in the government operation to disperse the protesters.
