China, Africa mark 47th anniversary of African Day

Chinese officials and diplomats of over 50 African nations Tuesday marked the 47th anniversary of the African Day with a reception in Beijing.
Addressing the ceremony, Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo applauded the development of China-Africa relations, strengthened mutual trust and steady promotion of cooperation in fields including trade and culture.
He said China and Africa had worked closely to materialize the outcomes of the forth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Egypt on November 2009.
China is willing to work with African countries to constantly consolidate traditional friendship and enhance cooperation in various fields, he said.
Sudanese Ambassador to China and Acting Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps Mirghani Mohamed Salih spoke highly about the positive outcomes of the forth ministerial meeting of the FOCAC.
Malawian Ambassador to China Charles Namondwe said Africa welcomes China's commitment and efforts to improve the livelihoods of the African people.
Mirghani Mohamed Salih also delivered a 100,000-yuan (14,600 U.S. dollars) donation to the Chinese government as support to reconstruction work in Qinghai Province's Yushu County, which was hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake in April.
African Day on May 25 marks the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963. The OAU was replaced by African Union in 2002.
