The government "now can control the situation," the Thai Army's assistant chief of staff told the nation during a live television program.

The curfew's imposition might negatively affect the normal life of the general public, he explained.

His address to the nation was made after a CRES meeting, starting from about 02:30 p.m., to decide whether it was essential to impose the curfew amid the ongoing anti-government rally in central Bangkok.
