The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam, EVN, said that the country will face a shortage of power supply this month due to severe drought, the Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday.

The country's hydroelectric power plants can not run at full capacity as water level at reservoirs are now at the dead water mark, the lowest in the past 100 years, said EVN.

Meanwhile, domestic demand keeps increasing as the country has seen more and more newly-established companies getting involved in electricity consumption.

The National Hydro Meteorological Forecast Center said that the country will continue suffering prolong drought in the north and severely hot in the central and southern provinces in coming months.

Hence, to ensure sufficient supply, especially for agricultural production, the EVN has taken some measures to prepare for unexpected situation.

These measures include the mobilization of other power- generating plants like thermoelectricity plants, safely operating the country's biggest 500kv north-south transmission line and saving electricity.
