China on Tuesday reiterated its call for a resumption of Middle East peace talks as soon as possible.

"We hope all parties concerned in the Middle East issue heed the calls of the international community, and put an end to actions holding back the resumption of peace talks," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu at a regular press briefing.

Her comments came in response to a question about the recent tension after Egypt and Israel announced to build barriers on the borders.
