COP15 host nation makes an official statement, declaring its support for a 'One China' policy.

Ever since Denmark's Prime Minister Lars L?kke Rasmussen met the Dalai Lama in May this year, Chinese-Danish relations have been strained. Business between the two countries has suffered and political meetings have been cancelled.

The Danish Prime Minister said there was a period where Denmark's relationship with China had been "near the freezing point." It was imperative for Denmark and fortunately also China to thaw those relations, he said.

"China is a big player, and the country is important to Danish interests," L?kke Rasmussen said.

He rejected the notion that Denmark had buckled under political pressure from China.

"We haven't made a deal with China," L?kke Rasmussen stressed. "We have made a statement reiterating what the Danish policy has always been in relation to Tibet."

He confirmed that this meant Denmark was not in support of Tibetan independence.

L?kke Rasmussen also said he was unlikely to meet the Dalai Lama again as he was not himself a Buddhist and therefore did not have a special need to meet him.
