Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, in Nanjing on Monday.

Reinfeldt is in China for the 12th China-European Union (EU) summit held in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Wen said Sweden is the first country that established diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China among western countries, and is also among the first batch of countries that signed trade agreements and investment protection agreements with China. The Sweden set up its first joint venture with Chinese counterpart as early as in 1982, he said.

All these "first" showed that Swedish politicians and entrepreneurs have "strategic sight and pioneering spirit," Wen said.

The premier said China attaches great importance to the relations with Sweden and wants to further the bilateral cooperation.

Reinfeldt said the two countries enjoy good relations and the Swedish government encourages Swedish companies to invest in China.

He said the government support the exchanges among the people, especially among youths.
