Iraqi security forces detained more than 60 security members over twin suicide bombings in central Baghdad which killed over some 155 people, an official Iraqi television reported on Thursday.

The arrested were in charge of providing security for a downtown Baghdad district which was hit by the deadly suicide attacks that targeted government buildings, Major General Qassim Atta said.

"Eleven officers and 50 security members, from the security forces in Salhiyah district, have been detained over the latest terrorist attack," the state-run Iraqia television quoted Atta as saying.

On Sunday, twin truck bombings rocked Baghdad's Salhiyah neighborhood, killing some 155 people and wounding more than 500 others.

The two attacks were the deadliest since suicide truck bomb attacks on Aug. 19 which targeted two Iraqi ministries killed and wounded some 1,300 Iraqis.

Sunday's blasts came as violence dropped dramatically during the past two years since the spike of sectarian strife that claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the war- torn country.

The attacks revealed the security situation facing the country that insurgents still have the ability to carry out deadly attacks in the heart of Baghdad.
