Hundreds of Kabul University students staged a peaceful demonstration Sunday to register their protest over what they describe desecration of Muslim holy book Quran by the U.S. troops days ago.

The protestors accused the U.S. troops of desecration and burning of Quran in Wardak province, calling on government to bring those behind the crime to justice.

Chanting slogans "Death to America", the demonstrators demanded the arrest and punishment of anyone who were involved in the offense.

"The arrest and punishment of the culprits is the demand of all students and the students would continue peaceful protest despite police surrounded them forcing to disperse," a protestor Matiullah Karimi told Xinhua.

Similar protest was held by students in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province in east Afghanistan last week.

NATO-led forces, according to locals, during operation against Taliban insurgents in Wardak province 40 km west of Kabul raided a mosque and desecrated Quran days ago.
