Six West African countries launched a new electronic money transfer system in Mali's capital Bamako on Thursday, marking an upgrade of means for financial operations in the region.

The launch of the E-money transfer system, which is called Mandat Express International (MEI), attracted administrators of 300 post offices from Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal.

Promoters described the new system as rapid and economical. The client only needs to use the postal network.

"The client will know, within no time, the status of his money order. This project will integrate the economies of our countries since, today, there is no proper and systematic exchange of money orders between African countries. It will offer the possibility for our countries to speak with one voice to the financial sponsors in a competitive environment," Wande Diakite, the director general of the national post office of Mali, told Xinhua in an interview.

In his opinion, the project will facilitate the transfer of savings especially by migrant workers in the best way.
