Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Saturday called for China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) to view and handle trilateral relations from long-term and strategic perspectives.

Wen made the remarks at a press conference after the second trilateral leaders' meeting of China, Japan and the ROK on Saturday morning.

Wen said mutual respect, friendship and addressing the core interests of common concern were the political basis of the 10 years of trilateral cooperation.

He said the driving force to deepen the cooperation among the three nations lay in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation to improve the lives of the people of each nation.

Wen said that only by deepening cooperation could the three nations boost development, advance the integration of the East Asian region and contribute to world peace and development.

He said the three countries would improve cooperation by taking effective measures in cooperations in trade, investment, finance, transportation, information, environment protection, green economy and public health.

The three nations would continue to support the integration of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and promote regional and sub-regional cooperation.

It was crucial to resolve conflicts through dialogue and consultation while respecting similaries and acknowledging differences to safeguard peace and stability of Northeast Asia.

Wen also pointed out the importance of tackling global challenges, such as global financial crisis and climate change, through joint efforts.

The tripartite meeting, held at the Great Hall of People, was chaired by Wen and attended by ROK President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.
