A train from southern province Trang to Bangkok derailed on Monday morning in Hua Hin, killing at least seven passengers and injuring more than 60, Thai media reported.

The accident happened at about 4:45 a.m. at Khao Tao station in Hua Hin district, a resort city about 200 kilometers south of Bangkok, with ten of the train's 15 compartments derailing, said The Nation online.

All the 7 victims, according to an initial investigation, are female, said the report, adding that about another 61 passengers got injured. The injured passengers had been transferred to hospitals nearby.

The train No. 84, left Trang at 5:20 p.m. Sunday and to arrive in Bangkok at 8:25 a.m. Monday, was arriving at Khao Tao station amidst heavy rains when it derailed.

The southern route trains of Thailand were temporarily suspended because of the incident, leaving many passengers stranded.

According to Thai Media Agency, the cause of the accident is not known yet, but it was believed that damaged rails may be cause of the accident.

So far there is no report on casualties of foreigners.
