Woody Allen assembles another set of all-stars for his latest movie "Magic in the Moonlight." The veteran director has joined cast members Emma Stone, Colin Firth and Jacki Weaver at the New York premiere of the film on Thursday.

The romantic comedy set in the South of France in the 1920s tells the story of an English master of illusion, played by Firth, who is called by his friend to help determine if Stone's character is a phony fortune teller.

For Allen, who wrote and directed the project, the story comes from his love of magic.

"I read that during the 1920s there was great many fraudulent spiritualist exploiting people all over the United States, all over Europe. And they could fool the general public, they could fool intellectuals, they could fool scientists, but they could never fool magicians because they were wise to the gimmicks. So there are a number of magicians, Houdini included, who were always debunking them. And I thought it would make a good story, a good romantic story," said Woody Allen, writer and director.

Twenty-five year old Stone says she was stunned when she got the call to work with Allen, and jokes about the nerves she felt the first day on set.

"I was like sick to my stomach kind of nervous. I had no idea what to expect and I think Colin felt the same way. So it was nice, we were both in the same, you know, vomity boat. Didn't actually vomit, but felt like I was going to," said Emma Stone, actress of "Magic in the Moonlight".

On the red carpet Firth says it took him awhile to adjust to Allen's style.

"It's an usually one because you don't get all the early reassurances and the - you don't get dinner and a chat and a table read or any rehearsal whatsoever. So really you're kicking off with the word action in front of a rolling camera," said Colin Firth, actor of "Magic in the Moonlight".

Allen has had a 50-year career in the entertainment industry that includes being an actor, comedian, musician, writer and director. However, it's the moments away from the spotlight that he enjoys the most.

"I like to write it and I like to edit it. When you're filming it, you know, you're up early in the morning and the clock is ticking and it's cold or it's hot - you know, it's hectic. But when you have it all in front of you and you can put it together. You know, you're sitting in a room quietly in New York and you can order your sandwiches. You know, it's a different life," Allen said.

"Magic in the Moonlight" will have a limited release next Friday and across the US throughout the month of August.
