China has responded to an annual report issued by the Pentagon on China's military development, calling it a extremely wrong move. In the report, the Pentagon lays out the challenges facing America as it tries to strengthen its presence in Asia.

According to the report, while US military spending is declining, China is spending billions of dollars to develop stealth fighters, cyber weaponry, armed drones and a growing naval fleet that has repeatedly squared off with its Asian neighbours.

The News Affairs department of China's Ministry of National Defense issued a statement on Friday, saying the US published its so-called report year after year, launching wild accusations against China about its normal national defense and military building, and promoting the "China military threat" theory. It called it an extremely wrong move, and expressed its firm opposition. The department said it is evaluating the report and will make further reaction when appropriate.
