The head of an international mission to Syria, charged with destroying the country's chemical weapons, has called on the Syrian government to ensure it meets a deadline to destroy all toxic chemicals.

"We are talking basically of the remaining seven and a half, eight percent of chemicals weapons material that currently still in country in one particular site. Six and a half, roughly, needs to be removed, a small percentage is to be destroyed regardless in country that can be done." Sigrid Kaag, special coordinator of UN/OPCW Joint Mission, said.

Sigrid Kaag says that so far, over 92 percent of Syria's chemical materials have been removed from the country and destroyed. Syria missed an April 13th deadline to destroy all its chemical weapons in accessible locations.

International experts say this could have an impact on meeting the June 30th final deadline. Experts also say they still have not had access to 12 chemical weapons production facilities.
