At the Winter Olympics, 8 gold medals were up for grabs yesterday. In the men's normal hill ski jumping, Poland's Kamil Stoch made his countries first Olympic medal at the Games, a gold one.
The 26 year old produced a superb first jump measuring 105.5 meters - four metres better than Anders Bardal of Norway who claimed bronze. And then finished with this leap of 103.5 meters to take the title. Meanwhile Peter Prevc of Slovenia, the 2013 world champion, overtook Bardal in the second round to take the silver medal.

LOCH WINS 2nd STRAIGHT GOLD
In other action Felix Loch took his second successive Olympic gold medal in the men's luge, easily defeating the world's other top sliders. The 24-year-old set a course record on Saturday and sealed the gold medal on his fourth run ahead of Russia's Albert Dem-chenko. Italy's Armin Zoeggeler won his sixth Olympic luge medal with bronze.
WUST WINS 3000M SPEED SKATING
In speed skating, Irene Wust of the Netherlands secured Winter Olympics gold in the women's 3000 metres. The 27-year-old powering to victory with a time of four minutes 0.34 seconds, overtaking the Czech Republic's Martina Sabli-kova who held on to take took silver. Meanwhile Olga Graf of Russia won bronze to make up the medal podium.
KUZMINA MATCHES GOLD FROM VANCOUVER
Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina matched her gold from Vancouver in the women's 7.5-kilometre sprint. Kuzmina shot flawlessly and finished with a time 21 minutes 6.8 seconds. The silver medal went to Russia's Olga Vilukhina and the bronze to Ukraine's Vita Sem-erenko. All three looking very happy on the podium there.
PLUSHENKO WINS RECORD EQUALLING 4th MEDAL
Meanwhile, the competition of figure skating continued with Russia winning its first gold of the Sochi Games in the first team event in figure skating, as the man we are watching here, Evgeni Plushenko took a record-equalling fourth Olympic medal in the figure skating. With strong performances in all disciplines, Russia have led in the team standings since the opening day on Thursday and scored 75 points to win the gold medal in the figure skating, ten points more than the silver medallists Canada. The United States came home with the bronze with 60 points. But yesterday was all about Plushenko, here cheered by a packed home crowd.
So this is how the all important mdeal table currently stands. Norway are top with 7 medals in total, 2 of them gold. They're followed by the Netherlands who have 4 medals and also 2 golds. The USA are in third with the same medals as the Dutch team, while Canada are in 4th, and the hosts Russia currently lie in 5th place.
