South Sudan government says it has made peace with a rebel leader in the country's largest state Jonglei. The announcement came a day after a representative of President Salva Kiir flew to Jonglei state for talks with militia leader, David Yau Yau, in an effort to end hostilities.

Following the talks, Yau Yau agreed to re-integrate his fighters into the Sudan People's Liberation Army or the SPLA.

Before the talks, the representative toured a site where a number of bodies of men in combat fatigues were seen in the bushes. It was impossible to tell if the dead were rebels or government troops.

"Killing ourselves like this, we cannot build a country this way. It is regrettable and I feel like these things could not happen. It happened anyway. But it is our role also to get in and solve this and we make sure that it will never happen again," said Akot Arech, envoy of President Kiir.
