The Philippines government has stepped up security measures in areas affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

In an effort to crack down on looting, more police have been dispatched to the hardest-hit city of Tacloban and other disaster areas. Armed police stand guard at ATMs, while others make patrols around warehouses which are prone to robbery.

As the recovery work from the typhoon is expected to take time, police are also wary of any supply interruptions which could worsen the security situation. Many typhoon victims in Tacloban have been living solely on relief supplies and violent clashes have become a regular occurrence as people clamor for food and shelter.
