The 16th China-EU summit in Beijing has discussed bilateral investments, human rights and urbanization.

The summit comes as the two sides celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Premier Li Keqiang met with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and the President of the European Commission, Jose Barroso.

The two sides signed a strategic cooperation and development plan for the year 2020. The new plan aims to expand trade to 1 trillion dollars by 2020, and opposes trade protectionism. After the signing ceremony, the two sides met with the press.

Li noted that China values ties with the European Union and wishes to work alongside the EU to expand and deepen cooperation. This year’s meeting is the first one since the new Chinese leadership took office.
