The flooding in north-east China appears to be getting worse, as levels of major rivers are still rising and more than 6,000 dykes have been breached.

Nearly 7,500 people have been affected and more than 10,000 hectares of farmland flooded after a dyke breach in Luobei County near the Heilongjiang River.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Heilongjiang River in Luobei County area is at around 100 meters; that’s 2 meters over the highest safety limit. The forecast says another round of heavy rains will hit north-east China after the weekend. The Ministry of Finance along with the Civil Affairs Ministry has released nearly 600 million Yuan to assist in flood relief operations in the affected provinces. The floods have caused at least 85 deaths with another 105 reported missing in the North-eastern provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning.
