There’s good news coming out of Doha, where UN climate talks are still underway. Six countries will contribute to a climate fund after the Fast Start Program expires at year’s end.

So far, six developed countries including the United Kingdom and Germany have pledged to inject capital. Xie Zhenhua, the head of China’s delegation to the UN climate talks, announced the pledges during a press conference. He said their financial contribution would not be less than the amount pledged in the past three years.

China and dozens of other nations, have proposed that developed countries raise 60 billion dollars per year, starting from 2013, for a "mid-term " climate fund, as long-term financial commitments will fall into uncertainty in the wake of the global economic downturn.

The six countries’ contributions may be the first step from the developed world to pay into this mid-term finance plan, urgently needed by their developing peers.
