Smart toys: A hit at Hong Kong toy fair

The HKTDC Toys and Games Fair has just opened in South China. For the past 38 years, the fair has become the largest event of its kind in Asia, and the second largest in the world. This year is no exception, with nearly 2-thousand exhibitors presenting an array of products for all ages. But this year, the toys are getting smarter than usual.

Innovation, creativity and quality have grabbed the attention of toy lovers at this fair. Hong Kong-based Global active Technology is displaying their new robot. It's controlled using a smartphone over the internet or using a bluetooth connection.
At another booth, Itoys are the object of lots of excitement. E-Supply International is betting on intelligent toys to lead a new trend on the market. This WiFi operated helicopter gives us an idea of what they think toys should be.
Kenis Cheung, E-Supply Int'l Ltd, said, "So far we have a couple sorts of Itoys already in the market but, of course, particularly for this toy show, we put some more functional and more innovative elements into the toys such as our camera built in for the helicopter. And also we use a new system WiFi system to control the helicopters. And even we've got the live view which can display and show the image in your mobile devices."

For those looking for something more down-to-earth, there's no projectile here, but an IR emitter and receiver enabling the tank to shoot and be shot great for those who want to start their own virtual wars.
And this strive to innovate is appreciated by buyers from around the world.
Bogdan Kiyanchuk, Ukrainian buyer, said, "Actually, one of the most important reasons I come here is to see something new, some new items and to get new ideas for the products. Not just to buy products because mostly things are same, but some people bring really new ideas and that's why we come here. One of the main reasons probably."
Though competition in the toy market is, and has always been tough, the road ahead seems bright for those with their eyes set on innovation.
