Beijing autumn auctions are in full swing. And Chinese ink painting and calligraphy works are still selling strong, judged by an auction held by Guardian auction house on Sunday night.

The auction climbed to its climax at the beginning. Works by contemporary painters Lu Yanshao, Wu Guanzhong and Li Keran, although saw starting prices at 5 to 6 million yuan, hit around 10 million within a short time.

The album penned by Qi Baishi, based on memories of his hometown and his touring experience, is another lot by Qi that sold for more than 100 million yuan, after one of his paintings went for over 400 million in spring auction.

Then, Fu Baoshi's portrait of a pipa player sold for 72 million yuan. And the centerpiece of the auction, Qi Baishi's 12 episode landscape album, created during the painter's peak years, sold for 194 million yuan, a record for this year's autumn auction so far.
