Electronics giant Apple is getting a slap on the wrist from the communications regulator in South Korea. The maker of iPads and iPhones is being hit with a three-million won fine. The punishment works out to about 28-hundred US dollars, and it is for allegedly collecting location data from users without proper authorization.

The fine, though small, marks the first time Apple has been punished by a regulator over controversial location data which sparked criticism in the US and elsewhere.

US lawmakers accuse the technology industry of exploiting location data for marketing purposes without getting proper consent from users.
