At least 35 people were confirmed dead and 210 injured after four coaches of a bullet train fell off a bridge in east China's Zhejiang Province late Saturday. More than 100 of the injured have been hospitalized. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao called for all-out efforts to rescue passengers and ordered to make rescue work a priority.

The collision happened Saturday evening at Shuangyu Town in Wenzhou City of Zhejiang, when high-speed train D301 crashed into another bullet train D3115.

According to a local railway official, the accident occurred after the bullet train was hit by lightning and lost power, and was then rear-ended by the high-speed train.

Four coaches of D301 fell off the viaduct, which is about 20 to 30 meters above the ground.

One of the four coaches plunged vertically, and the three others fell onto the ground completely.

Rescuers have pulled many passengers out of the fallen coaches. And passengers themselves also joined in the rescue work.

Minister of Railways Sheng Guangzu was heading for the accident scene to guide the rescue. He called for immediate and all-out efforts from the rescue teams to save the injured passengers. He also ordered an in-depth investigation into the accident.

The first round of rescue work on the four fallen coaches has now concluded. Rescuers have searched the coaches more than ten times and found no more signs of life.
